Switch Lighting has just released a liquid cooled LED bulb that promises better light distribution and more even color temperatures.
Switch Lighting has just announced a new type of LED technology that is supposed to distribute light more evenly through the bulb and deliver a more consistent color temperature while in use.
Traditional LED bulbs place the LED light source down at the base of the bulb — near the heat sink — to ensure that the element does not over heat. This makes it difficult for bulbs to efficiently distribute light in all directions. In the new Switch Lighting bulb however, the LED light source is placed in the globe at the top half of the bulb. The globe is then filled with a heat dispersing fluid that funnels the heat away from the element and out of the heat sink near the bulb’s base.
This new technology does not improve the bulb’s efficiency, but it does proved a higher quality light that can more closely mimic the effect of an incandescent bulb.
The company will be releasing the 40 watt , 60 watt and 75 watt equivalent bulbs this summer; initially priced between $40 – $50 per bulb. A more consumer oriented (cheaper) bulb is expected to reach the market sometime next year.
