We make homes work better for the people who live in them.

Understanding Home Performance

Home performance is a comprehensive approach to identifying and fixing problems with comfort, energy efficiency, and air quality in your home.

The systems that insulate, heat, cool, and ventilate your home should work together to efficiently deliver clean air and optimum comfort. In the vast majority of Bay Area homes, this is far from the case.

We're Home Performance Experts

We adopt a holistic approach to enhance your home’s insulation, air sealing, heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. We carefully measure, tailor, and commission solutions designed to elevate your living space’s comfort, efficiency, and performance.

Once we’ve designed your plan, our dedicated team of in-house insulation and HVAC installers ensures each step meets our high standards, guaranteeing that your home is perfectly optimized for your current and future needs.

Before Home Energy Optimization - An Inefficient & Leaky Home.

This image illustrates common home energy inefficiencies before optimization.

Key issues include leaky, saggy, and loose ducts allowing conditioned air to escape, an oversized furnace wasting energy, and poor attic air sealing leading to heat loss and air contamination.

Unsealed bath fans, recessed lighting, and return air intakes contribute to drafts and poor indoor air quality. Additionally, a recirculating kitchen range hood fails to vent pollutants, while a ventilated crawlspace with saggy ducts creates moisture and temperature control issues.

These inefficiencies lead to high energy bills, poor air circulation, and increased wear on HVAC systems.

After Home Energy Optimization - Efficient & Airtight Home

New features include air-sealed attic floors with cellulose insulation, sealed fixtures, and optimally designed ductwork for minimal energy loss.

An ERV (Energy Recovery Ventilator) improves indoor air quality by replacing stale air with fresh air. Short, insulated ducts prevent energy loss, while a properly vented kitchen range hood exhausts pollutants outdoors. The crawlspace is sealed with a vapor barrier, and an efficient heat pump system operates within the conditioned space.

These upgrades enhance energy efficiency, reduce utility costs, and improve indoor comfort and air quality.

Home Performance Basics

We use data to find and fix the weaknesses in your home's performance.

Comfort

Adequate and strategic insulation in ceilings and walls keeps them from getting hot or cold. This reduces radiant loss or gain from these surfaces, which can make you uncomfortable even when the air temperature has reached your thermostat’s set point.

Proper air sealing reduces drafts so you don’t feel cold air flowing through your home. We air-seal the ceiling from the attic and the floor from the crawlspace, which is where it matters most.

Equalizing temperatures throughout your home: we design, install, and commission your heat pump system so it delivers the exact amount of air that each room needs.

Your system should be so quiet that you don’t even know it’s on. We design and install your system for low resistance and high performance, so it is very quiet while running.

Efficiency

We install and commission all-electric heat pumps and duct systems so they deliver the maximum capacity possible. Our goal is to hit 85% delivered capacity, while the rest of the industry is below 50%. We do this by installing zero leakage duct systems, shortening duct lengths, designing for the right velocity, mixing the air thoroughly, properly sizing the heat pump system, and by properly measuring, adjusting, and testing.

Air sealing and insulation work together with your heat pump to keep heat in during the winter and out during the summer. Your home will be able to maintain a consistent, comfortable temperature more easily while your properly sized heat pump draws less power.

Air Quality

Keep dirty air out, introduce fresh air, and filter all the air inside to ensure optimum indoor air quality.

By sealing the attic and crawlspace and installing zero-leakage duct systems, we can prevent unwanted air from these areas from entering your home. We further enhance your indoor air quality with advanced ventilation systems and design our ducted heat pump systems for high filtration and low resistance. This delivers extensive air purification with minimal energy use.

Five stars
"I can't say enough good things about EcoPerformance. They helped us install attic insulation and a reversible mini-split heat pump. We now have a fully operating system that lets us stay comfortable in the increasingly hot summers while letting us retire our gas furnace and take a big step in lowering our carbon footprint and heating bill."

Don't invest in a new HVAC solution without addressing the performance of your home.

A high performance heat pump system is a considerable expense, but it will be more costly to run if the insulation and air sealing of your home aren’t addressed at the same time. A data-driven approach that examines your unique home as a whole will pay for itself in superior comfort, efficiency, and air quality.
