Proper Duct Design/Install

Zero measurable leakage. Ducts – Sealed, Engineered, Balanced and Insulated

Duct systems in California leak an average of 30%. That is 30% air going in and out of your ducts which can bring in contaminants from the attic and crawlspace into your home plus all of the obvious energy loss. If duct leakage occurs on the return side of the system it can draw in contaminated attic or crawlspace air and send it directly into the living space. sealed duct fittingLeakage in ducts can be a main factor in comfort and moisture issues, performance problems, high energy bills and poor air quality. Another thing that hurts your systems performance is duct insulation.  Ducts should not only have the insulation wrap on the outside of them but they should be in a conditioned area or buried in cellulose insulation if in the attic

New duct systems by EPB are always designed using ACCA (Air Conditioning Contractors of America) Manual D (Duct Design) guidelines along with ACCA manual J (room by room load calculations).  We design ductwork to be short and then use the grille to throw the air to the exterior of the home.  This keeps the heat loss of the duct low and increases comfort.  Our goal for every installed system is zero measurable duct leakage and on about 95% of jobs we hit this mark and when we don’t it is under 1% or 15cfm@25 pa.  Also, to increase airflow and fan efficiency, we always install sheet metal 90’s at every turn.  This keeps our static pressure and watt draw low while maintaining perfect airflow.

It is this attention to detail that helps ensure a healthy comfortable environment at a minimal operating cost for our clients.
